Producer

I’ve always wanted to be a music producer. When I started trying to cut my own CD, I realized how fun it would be to make CDs with people. I love making music sound good, even though I find it difficult to do on my own.

Last night I was helping my friend Katie record a piano CD for her family (I hope I’m not spoiling anything…). We laid down about 20 tracks in a couple hours, and she wanted to redo “I’ll Be Home For Christmas”. Then she asked me if I would sing it. I don’t really like how my voice sounds outside of my head, so I hesitated, but in the end I agreed to do it. It sounds pretty good for a bunch of amateurs, I think. Her mom actually did the recording and mixing because I couldn’t sing and mix at the same time. There are some things I’d like to change about it, but whatever.

If you want to, be one of the first to hear the new single from Kathryn Albus’ newest, yet unrealeased CD.

A Mistake

Attention readers: Do not, whatever you do, ever drive your car through anything resembling a pond. Good things will not come of it. Engines do not like having a gallon of water inside them. Your oil should not look like a tasty latte. Spark plugs do not work when they’re soaked. It is not fun, regardless of what anyone tells you, to sit at a mechanic’s waiting for your engine block to dry out. And your bosses don’t like it when you’re six hours late for work.

This has been a public service announcement.

A lady at work forwarded this video to me today. It’s unbelievable. Apparently it’s a guy in Ohio who sets this up. The lights move to the music, which is a feat in and of itself, but it’s also so amazingly artisticly done it’s beyond words. He broadcasts the song (it’s “Wizard in Winter” by Trans Siberian Orchestra) on FM, so you can listen as you go past. I read a post by a friend of his that he keeps the lights on from 6-10pm, but recently had to shut them down this year because he was getting so much attention that people came from all over and traffic around his house started to get really crazy and he was afraid for accidents. But at least we have the video!

An Old Friend

Yesterday I went to Jenny Lynn’s concert at VCU. Afterwards, a few of us gathered at a restaurant for some late-nite goodies. Not wanting much (but ending up getting a slice of their amazing broccoli pizza), I ordered a coffee, as I am wont to do.

Byrne DairyWhen my coffee came and I began to add the creamer, what, to my surprise, did I see? If you haven’t guessed it yet, the creamer was from Byrne Dairy, which some of you may recognize as my first real job. I worked there for about 3 years while I was in college. What surprised me is that Byrne is a dairy in New York, and ONLY New York, and last I checked I was in Virginia last night. I have a lot of fun memories from working there (getting up at 4am takes some getting used to, but being done with work by 1pm, 9:30am on the really good days, is excellent). Maybe that’s why I was so happy. I mean, this really made my night! And I’m still talking about it!

Good ol’ Byrne Dairy. I gotta go back and get me some of that mint milk. Seriously the best milk I ever tasted is from Byrne (gotta be in the glass bottles). If you’re ever in New York state, find yourself a Byrne Dairy and get some. And one of those yummy cookie ice cream sandwiches.
