		<description>About your first question: You might note that the majority of the news items are not actually worth talking about. Obsessing about the Red Carpet at the Oscars for example can hardly be conceived as either 1) utilitarian or 2) promoting the Kingdom-of-God.

Is the military a necessary evil? I edited a Spanish translation of a book called &quot;Politics under God&quot; by John Redekop that will help you think about it. He sees government as instituted by God, and as serving a &quot;subChristian&quot;, but God-ordained function. This is very interesting and I salute his term &quot;subChristian&quot;.

Then some soldiers asked him, &quot;And what should we do?&quot; He replied, &quot;Don&#039;t extort money and don&#039;t accuse people falsely—be content with your pay.&quot; 

This text is about John the Baptist, but some use this as a proof text that militarism is not evil.  I don´t agree. But I do think that trying to explain pacifism based solely on proof texts is missing the point.</description>
